2016 tourism season in jeopardy with ferry delays, says d'Entremont

 Tories push for ferry update
Progressive Conservative MLA for Argyle-Barrington Chris d'Entremont is calling on the McNeil Liberals to release an update on the Yarmouth ferry, according  to a news release Tuesday.

"The Liberals are putting the 2016 sailing season in serious jeopardy and it's time to come clean with Nova Scotians," says d'Entremont. "What is happening with the Yarmouth ferry? Nova Scotians deserve a plan now."

In late October, Transportation Minister Geoff MacLellan announced that Bay Ferries was the preferred operator for the 2016 season. The Liberals said the company had 45 days to secure a vessel. That deadline passed on December 13.

At the time of the announcement, MacLellan told media that Bay Ferries, "brought a package that made sense." He refused to give further contract details at the time.

Maclellan told the Yarmouth Vanguard that he is unconcerned with the missed deadline.

d'Entremont says Nova Scotia citizens have a right to be concerned.

"It’s the start of the new year and the Liberals still have not told Nova Scotians the plan for the ferry service this year or for future years," says d'Entremont. “We deserve a long-term plan for that minimizes the cost to taxpayers and helps provide stability for people who work in the tourism industry.”
