NDP Leader Gary Burrill and PC leader Jamies Baillie are calling on premier Stephen McNeil to provide evidence that appropriate policies were followed in the recent hiring of former journalist Marilla Stephenson as managing director of corporate and external affairs.
Saying that lowest paid workers left behind as premier McNeil provides his inner circle with generous salaries and appointments, NDP Leader Gary Burrill has raised concerns about high level staff appointments given that Stephen McNeil is unwilling to discuss increasing the province’s minimum wage to $15 per hour.

McLeod was thrown out of the legislature last week when he accused Health Minister Leo Glavine about lying to Nova Scotians regarding for current information about the doctor-patient ratio in Cape Breton.
The McNeil government released its 2016-2017 budget Tuesday afternoon, decribing it as "balanced" and "making investments in economic growth, education, and youth."
The budget projects a $127.4 million surplus, including a one-time revenue increase of $110.3 million because of federal and municipal contributions for the convention centre in Halifax.
The government says the $110.3 million will go towards the debt to provide the fiscal capacity to launch a multi-year development of the QEII Health Sciences Centre. The budget's net position is $17.1 million.
