Bizet’s opera masterpiece, which premiered in Paris in March 1875, is based on the novel Carmen by Prosper Mérimée. Today, ‘Carmen’ remains one of the most frequently performed French operas in the world. The beautiful bohemian girl will share her theory of love, joyfully captivating you with her charms and cheekiness. Come meet some of the country’s finest emerging artists in this wonderful production with costumes, lighting, and original stage direction. The opera is sung in French with English subtitles. With musical direction by Jeunesses Musicales’ Louise-Andrée Baril and stage direction by Alain Gauthier, the work is packed with violence, boiling passions, lust, fierce characters and unrepentent rascals.
St. Cecilia is pleased to bring ‘Carmen’ to Lunenburg in association with Maritime Concert Opera. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at Fulton’s General Store in Lunenburg or by calling 634-9994. They can also be purchased through Maritime Concert Opera at 634-4280. Student tickets are $10 at the door. Refreshments will be served during intermission at the event.
