Nov 25 -    Pat Melanson & Robbie Smith - 15 years and going strong!

When they first met in downtown Shelburne the fall of 1996, neither Pat Melanson nor Robbie Smith had any inkling that it would lead to one of the most enduring and robust collaborations in the local music scene. “The first meeting was to talk a bit and set up a chance to play some tunes together,” says Pat Melanson. Fifteen years and many thousands of songs and tunes later, Pat and Robbie remain fast friends and still get together to make music. Their “Pat & Robbie – 15 Years On” show at the Seadog on Friday will be a testament to that enduring energy and the apparent melding of two kindred spirits.

Between them, they bring over a dozen instruments to a performance and much of what they play is original or original settings of classic tunes that span the generations. Their combined efforts in the band "Killick" won them acclaim wherever they played and gave them opportunities to play main stage in venues from Nova Scotia to Ontario.

More recently, Robbie is best known for his work as half of the popular folk duo, Naming the Twins. With Kathleen Glauser as the other twin, Smith has played most of the folk venues in Nova Scotia and the pair did a house concert tour of the eastern US several months ago. A few years ago Pat Melanson founded The Piper’s Guild, now a Celtic music booking agency serving clients throughout the Maritimes and into Upper Canada and serves as music director for many of the regional reenactment events.

“Though we haven’t played together as much over the past two or three years, we have stayed close friends and allies,” adds Melanson. “We thought it fitting to recognize our body of work, relive some old memories and to give a treat to the many fans here, that have enjoyed us over the years.” The plan is to have the duo perform for the first set and then switch to a "jam" inviting their friends to join in for more rollicking songs.

"Fifteen Years On" plays at the Seadog Saloon on Dock St. in Shelburne on Friday, November 25 at 8:00pm.  The show, set for November 25 at 8 pm, with a $5 cover. The kitchen closes at 9:00pm
