It started with a conversation about light.
There is something magical about the light that pours into the barn, a former horse stall and workshop, at the childhood home of Fred Hatfield's wife, Belle, part of the group. As two of the photographers with the Hatfield Gorman & Company Photography Group, Fred Hatfield and Michael Gorman discovered that the magical light makes the site surprisingly perfect for natural light portraits.
No matter the time of day or weather condition, the light in the old barn in Yarmouth just seemed to work. The 30 portraits bring together a collection of people connected to Yarmouth, some very recognizable and others not as much, and serve to create a representation of the community at large.
Hatfield Gorman & Company Photography Group sought to capture people as naturally as possible, without pretension or elaborate planning, gear, or setups. Along with the collaboration of the subjects and master printer Randy Smith, Installed gathers a group of people who might not otherwise cross paths.
The final product is much more than a series of black and white photographic portraits, but it started with a conversation about light.
