Five of the candidates vying for a seat in Parliament from the South Shore - St. Margarets riding had breakfast with voters in Shelburne Tuesday morning and shared their visions of what they would offer to residents of the riding, should they be elected.
In two separate news releases on Tuesday and Wednesday, the Nova Scotia NDP Party announced that there were only one qualified NDP candidate in each of four Southwest Nova provicial ridings in anticipation of an election which might be called by the McNeil Liberal government.
John Davis will be acclaimed March 8 for the Queens-Shelburne riding. David Olie is running in Yarmouth, Harold Neil in Clare-Digby and Greg Foster in Argyle-Barrington. All three will be nominated by acclaimation at a single meeting in Yarmouth on March 6.
Vote with an open mind
I have ambled my way through many an election , even ran in a couple, but this present municipal election in the town of Shelburne has a category all its own.
This event occurs every four years and usually arouses only any measurable amount of excitement in those offering for office.
This time around the spirit of the occasion is somewhat elevated in the emotions of not only the politicians but the electorate also.

The Acadian Federation of Nova Scotia is going to proceed with legal action to have the province's electoral boundaries declared unconstitutional just as an election call appears imminent in the province.
